Owen Cox is a foreign counsel of Global Law Office in Shanghai. He is an Australian-qualified lawyer with full-time China legal experience that extends back to 2001.
Owen has assisted a broad range of multinational corporations in China, with a focus on foreign investors structuring, setting up and operating in China. He has worked on greenfield establishments and acquisitions of Chinese enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises across a range of sectors, including health care, manufacturing, distribution, agriculture, automotive and services. He has also been active in assisting clients with the protection of trade secrets, including with conducting internal investigations for employee misconduct. In addition, Owen has advised on a broad range of other matters, covering trade, competition law, labor law issues, IP licensing and enforcement, and distribution arrangements.
In the health care sector, Owen most recently assisted a leading UK-based pharmaceutical company to close down its joint venture that manufactured psychotropic drugs. Particular care was required to protect its reputation and its intellectual property, and to guard against the “local” practices of the Chinese partner. Owen has also advised recently in relation to the importation and sale of medical devices.
